Mobile Area Resource Centre
About the MARC Program
The Mobile Area Resource Centre (MARC) is a literacy-based service that enables small rural and regional schools to offer students access to a broader range of texts and educational resources.
The MARC van, staffed by a dedicated teacher-librarian, visits our school every second Wednesday.
Program Benefits
The MARC program provides many benefits that significantly enhance student learning and engagement, such as:
Access to High-Quality Resources
The MARC van is filled with a variety of picture books, fictional novels, and non-fiction books for both students and teachers to borrow. This service provides our students with access to high-quality resources that enrich their learning experience.
Literacy-Rich Programs
How it Works
Each week, the MARC van arrives at our school, allowing students to borrow books. Students in Prep can borrow one book, while students in Grades 1 to 6 can borrow up to two books each visit. Books can be returned early to a designated return tub at the school or brought back on the next MARC van day.
Fortnightly Sessions
During their one-hour MARC session, students participate in library lessons that focus on various aspects of literacy, such as reading strategies, literature appreciation, and research skills. These sessions are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and aim to support and enrich classroom learning.
Special Events & Activities
The MARC program also includes special events like visits from authors and illustrators, Book Week activities, and other literacy-focused events. These activities provide additional opportunities for students to engage with literature and develop a love for reading.
