Learning Through Cooking: An Educational Experience

Our students have been exploring what life might have been like 150 years ago, through food!

This hands-on approach to learning through cooking helps them understand history, science, and the art of food preparation in a fun, memorable way.

A Taste of the Past in Term 2

This term, our students are stepping back in time to discover what life may have looked and tasted like over a century ago.

With a focus on traditional methods and recipes, our classrooms have become vibrant learning hubs filled with curiosity, conversation, and the delicious smells of handmade treats.

Exploring History Through Anzac Cookies

Last week, students baked Anzac cookies while learning about their wartime origins. The class discussed how ingredients were limited due to money, transport delays, and the lack of refrigeration, offering a rich blend of history and practical learning.

It was a meaningful way to honour the Anzacs while appreciating the resourcefulness of past generations.

The Science Behind Butter & Ice Cream

This week’s focus turned to science in the kitchen. Without using any appliances, students created butter and ice cream through shaking, friction, and plenty of elbow grease!

Learning through cooking also gave students a first-hand look at scientific concepts, like physical change, energy, and transformation.

It’s been a fun, messy, and memorable start to Term 2 – and we’re just getting started!
